Wildcats looking to seal the deal Friday

The Kemper County Wildcats (2-0) could seal the district championship Friday with a win over 1-1 Philadelphia.
The Wildcats defeated district opponent Newton, 26-8 last week, while Philadelphia won its first district game over Nanih Waiya, with the loss coming from Lake, who the Wildcats defeated 32-21.

The KCHS coaching staff ac- knowledged that Philadelphia has always been a hard team to beat. “ Philadelphia is one of those pro- grams who is always good at de- fense,” said KCHS Coach Ray Westerfield, “I always use them as an example for my team. It’s going to take our best effort to pull it off.”

“It's going to take us being locked in ... playing the entire four quarters,” he said. This win would seal the district champi- onship, as well as a high playoff seed.

“I love our chances”, says West- erfield, as the playoffs are nearing. Westerfield is seeing that his team is regaining their health. “We are getting healthy,” he said. “Di- cenzo Miller is starting to look like the Dicenzo Miller from last year.”

What Westerfield says it takes to win in 2A football is stopping the run and being able to run the football. It is evident that the Wildcats can run the ball as Miller rushed for almost 200 yards against Newton, with Aaron Steele rushing for 132, however the Wildcats did allow Lake to rush for 300 yards in their matchup.

The Wildcats run game however, has been strong for most of the season. Along with rushing for 132 yards on Friday, Steele also passed for 150 yards. Jamarii Scott led the receivers with 65 yards on five catches. Close be- hind was Jamar Grace who had 45 yards, while Miller had 40. On de- fense, Kentric Delk, Jakalyn Bour- rage, and EJ Jackson all had four tackles, with Bourrage having a sack.

After the huge game against Philadelphia on Friday, the Wild- cats will finish their regular season by traveling to Nanih Waiya.
