The Kemper County board of supervisors voted to allow the Mississippi Health Department to use the county park in DeKalb as an observation area for people after they receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

No shots have been scheduled at this time but it will be coming. When someone receives the vaccination, they must remain for observation for 15 minutes in case they have an allergic reaction.

“On behalf of the board, we wish everyone a safe Merry Christmas,” board president Pat Granger said. “We are all praying for a better 2021.”

A county-wide mandate issued by the board of supervisors requires that masks be worn in public. It goes through January 4. Kemper County is also on Gov. Tate Reeves’s list requiring that masks be worn in public and limiting the number of people at gatherings.

Supervisors considered several matters during their Monday meeting.

Paying your garbage bill has become a little easier. The county signed an agreement with Commercial Bank to receive in-person payments. This will begin at the start of the new year. Supervisors also appointed a law firm to act as the hearing officer concerning garbage bill disputes. The board approved the adjusted garbage bill list for November.

The county 911 department has received eight new Motorola radios. Supervisors approved the receipts of the radios,

Supervisors tabled a request for a school bus turnaround. They also tabled an order to have the duct work systems in the Court House cleaned at the cost of $4,479.

Supervisors received an appraisal on the building that once housed a discount store across from the Court House. Supervisors agreed to pay Appraisers Associated $2,850 for the work and approved a realtors contract on the appraised building.

Supervisors also approved the FY 2021 results of Personal Properties Reserve Auction for the road and bridge department. Supervisors approve the purchase of tag and title for a county vehicle.
