Scooba Trunk or Treat well attended
The stars were definitely out in downtown Scooba on Saturday night, ranging from Mickey Mouse, to Sonic the Hedgehog, to Chucky, to the Mad Hatter, and more ninjas that could be counted.
Several hundred people poured into the Kemper County town to participate in a Trunk or Treat event that mayor Craig Nave Sr. hopes will continue grow.
“We were very pleased,” Nave said. “People from all over Kemper County came out and even some from Noxubee County. It was just good to see everybody together doing something for the children.”
He said that 56 trunks were available for the children to visit during their stroll along the town’s main street which runs along the railroad track.
“It was just so good to see everybody from the community come together,” said longtime Scooba resident Cheryl Sparkman. “I think everyone enjoyed it, young and old.”
The event began at 5 and ended at 7 with the heaviest of the traffic taking part in the first hour.
“The Scooba trunk or treat was a very successful event,” said Kemper County Circuit Clerk Sherline Watkins. “All of our little spooky goblins, pumpkins, witches, and costumed characters came out and got all their buckets could hold.”
She said it was so exciting to see so many people together celebrating, after being limited due to COVID last year.
“Last year we were going though some unprecedented times due to the pandemic and they didn’t get to go door to door trick or treating,” Watkins said. “Mayor Nave and the town of Scooba and also the surrounding communities gave the young and the young at heart a chance to fellowship and enjoy the community atmosphere.”
Nave said the event was something he hoped would continue to grow over time.
“I think everyone enjoyed themselves and just enjoyed being together,” he said.
