Scooba to Host Playground Ribbon-Cutting Saturday

The young people of Scooba will have something new to look forward to as a new playground will be officially open to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held this coming Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The playground is located behind the Town Hall, and according to Mayor Craig Nave it will feature a swing set, a slide and monkey bars, and by this summer there will be a full- size basketball court, as well.

Nave said, "This was actually a partnership that we were able to work with the Board of Supervisors on. (District 1) Supervisor (Pat) Granger was very instrumental in securing the funds and getting this done for the town." Nave added that without the County's help it would have been much more difficult to build the new facility, and he sees it as a great investment for both entities.

He added that the playground had been in the works for the past few months, and is finally coming to fruition this Saturday, and it shows the youth of the town that they are important and valued, and they are trusted to be the future of the town. Nave, a life-long resident of Scooba, said that he always wondered why they did not have a playground, and the youth of the town and the county deserve the investment.

He added, "I've been to a lot of grand openings, but this one will be 10-times more special to me." Nave and Granger, and possibly others, will have brief comments, and there will be games and refreshments and an Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Brothers of the Scooba Masonic Lodge, who have held the egg hunt for a number of years, at the local baseball field.

Nave added that the egg hunt each year averages around 100 kids, and he hopes to see that many, and hopefully more, at the playground this year.

Supervisor Granger stated he grew up in Scooba, and this is something they are proud of, to be able to offer to young people a place go and play where they are safe.

The public is invited to come out Saturday for a time of fun and festivities as the Scooba Playground is officially open for use.
