No new coronavirus cases reported here today

Kemper County has no new confirmed coronavirus cases as the state total increased by 161 today.

Kemper County has 14 total positive case of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, according to a daily report from the Mississippi State Department of Health released this morning.

Statewide, there are 161 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing that total to 2,942 cases. The state is not giving out specifics about where they individuals had been or other information such as pre-existing conditions.

The death toll in the state also climbed to 98, with two new deaths reported. Deaths have occurred in Adams, Amite, Bolivar (3), Chickasaw (2), Choctaw, Clarke, Coahoma, DeSoto (2), Forrest (2), Hancock (5), Harrison (5), Hinds (2), Holmes (3), Humphreys, Jackson (5), Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lamar, Lauderdale (8), Lee (4), Leflore (4), Lincoln (4), Madison (2), Marshall (2), Monroe (2), Montgomery, Oktibbeha, Panola (2), Pearl River (8), Perry, Pike, Pontotoc, Rankin (2), Smith, Sunflower, Tippah (6), Tunica, Union, Washington (2), Webster, Wilkinson (3), and Yazoo.

Hinds and DeSoto counties lead the state with 259 and 178 cases respectively. Here's a link to all of the Mississippi cases.

MSDH is no longer even reporting the total number of tests being taken in the state because some of them are being done privately.

According to MSDH, 29 percent of the positive cases have required hospitalization.

Restaurants can remain open but inside dining is limited to the 10 including staff. Many restaurants are offering to-go and curbside service. Some retailers are closed to the public but are taking appointments.

Among other things, the governor has extended the deadline to file homestead until May 1 as well as extending the deadline for filing personal property renditions to May 1.

Gov. Reeves is waiving the one-week waiting period to receive unemployment benefits for all claims filed from March 8 to June 27 and suspending all work search requirements that normally must be met to receive benefits. Go to: mdes.ms.gov/unemployment-claims/.
