We have gotten off to a great start for the new year and new semester in our school district. I am proud to serve the students, families, educators, and the community of Kemper County.

Our vision at KCSD is that every student receives a high quality education at a High Performing School District. And it is this goal that drives our work every day.

Over these past few weeks, we have made some changes in our district to foster student achievement and operational excellence. Some highlights of the progress we have made so far include:

• Successfully managed Leadership unification with school board and school administration.

• Revamped and streamlined the school board agenda and meetings;

• Filled the position for Federal Programs director with Fred Hickman;

• Filled the position for Business Manager;

• Provided administrative support at West Kemper Elementary;

• Aligned teaching curriculum to match all grades between East Kemper Elementary and West Kemper Elementary;

Formalized our benchmark data at all schools;

• Adopted and approved one common education platform for instructional aide, testing and monitoring;

Established attainable and key goals at each school for every student to reach;

Implemented a parent communications outreach procedure to allow teachers to routinely communicate with parents;

Approved monthly recognitions for Student of the Month, Teacher of the Month and Employee of the Month;

We believe these achievements have made and will continue to make our school district stronger in face of our challenges. Our number one priority is moving forward academically in all areas, at all schools, and for all students.

In order to achieve this, we understand that change is necessary and we embrace it at Kemper County School District. It is a collaborative effort, which we are all proud of. We are inspired and hope that you will be too. You have my personal pledge that I will remain committed to pursuing better outcomes with transparency and a sense of urgency for all of our students.

Thank you for your support and I look forward to working with you as we continue to positively impact our students, climate and culture at Kemper County School District – The Wildcat Way!

Hilute Hudson is the superintendent of the Kemper County School District.
