(SEPT. 2, 2021)
— The Kemper County Wildcats opened their 2021 football season with a 47-20 victory over Leake Central Friday night on the East Mississippi Community College campus in Scooba.
— What was Category 4 Hurricane Ida passed over Kemper County Monday night dumping rain but leaving only minor damage.
FIVE YEARS AGO
(AUGUST 31, 2017)
— Earlier this month the Kemper County Board of Supervisors entered into a lease/purchase agreement with Emmanuel Ridge Community Services to sell the old main health services building located on the campus of the former DeKalb hospital for the cost of $40k.

(AUGUST 30, 2012)
— With an apparent crackdown by public utilities on damage caused by digging, the Kemper County Board of Supervisors are looking for ways to become as educated as possible on the subject. Each of the supervisors expressed concern on exactly how the state government and the utilities were going to hand down fines and penalties and how to determine whether they are called for.
— The Kemper Academy Rams improved to 2-0 on the season Tuesday night as they beat Calvary Christian 42-16 in prep football action.
25 YEARS AGO
(AUGUST 28, 1997)
— By a slim 3-2 vote on Tuesday night the board of Aldermen in the Town of DeKalb approved a motion to offer the vacant Chief of Police job to Jeff Jowers, who was one of only two full-time officers employed by the DeKalb Police Department.
— Estimated crowds reaching between 500 and 600 filtered in out of the Alcorn State University Small Farm
Incubator for Kemper and Winston Counties Saturday for the “Small Farm and Home Field Day” held near Preston.
50 YEARS AGO
(AUGUST 31, 1972)
— The West Kemper Cheerleaders for 1972 are Dynell Wood, Melonie Sullivan, Vicki Palmer, Donna Harbour, Shelia McDonald, Orrie Bohannon, Darlene White, Diane Raw, Ali Hillman, and Jurita Johnson.
80 YEARS AGO
(AUGUST 27 1942)
— Ross Colins led Kemper County in the first democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, but finished a close third overall to second place finisher Wall Doxey. James O. Eastland led the primary. Arthur Busby and W.A. Winstead were the top two vote getters district wide for the Congressional seat — Porterville now boasts that it is the home town of a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps. He is Raymond E. Hooper, who promotion to that rank has just been announced my Marine Corps headquarters in Atlanta.

— It was announced this week that there had been received in Kemper County the first of school commodities — 17,280 cans of Borden’s evaporated milk.
