Kemper Academy set to host Calhoun Friday

Both Kemper Academy basket­ball teams took disappointing losses to open district play to Newton County Academy last week. KA will host Calhoun on Friday and will travel to Sylva Bay next Tuesday. KA hosted Sylva Bay on Tuesday of this week. Those results will be in next week’s paper.

The Lady Rams had trouble taking care of the basketball as they gave up 23 turnovers and were beaten 47-25, after trailing by just eight at halftime. In the third quarter, Newton outscored the Lady Rams 10-0, giving them an even larger lead. The Lady Rams then only scored four points in the fourth opposed to Newton’s eight, giving Newton the win.

Shadow Goodrich led with nine points, while grabbing five re­bounds. Sydney Wilson scored eight while securing seven re­bounds.

The Rams have had trouble with the injury bug with three starters being injured as of late. The Rams also turned the ball over 20 times in their 54-40 loss to NCA.

After trailing 52-20 at the end of the third the Rams started playing well in the fourth, win­ning the quarter 20-2, however it was still not enough to harm Newton's big lead. Kix Wilson led with 18 points, while grab­bing eight boards. Zane Knight nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and 12 re­bounds.
