KA celebrates Homecoming Week

Posted

It’s been a big week for all the students at Kemper Academy this week, with four days of Homecoming Week activities culminating with the crowning of the 2022 Homecoming Queen and the playing of the Homecoming Game on Friday.

The Homecoming Court consists of nine maids, one each from grades seventh through 11th, and four from the senior class. The maids were voted on by their particular grades, with the entire high school voting on the Homecoming queen, which will come form one of the four senior maids.

The senior maids this year are Natalee Bozeman, Rylee Gully, Braylee Johnson, and Cailee Johnson. The presentation of the Homecoming Court will begin at 6 p.m. on the KA football field, with the crowning of the queen being handled by KA Head of School Mary Ellen Barnes.

The football game itself against Ben’s Ford will kick off at 7 p.m. The Rams will be looking for their third win of the season. After taking Monday off, celebration of Homecoming has been in full-force with each day having a dress-up theme.

Tuesday was Character Day, where students in all grades dressed up as one of their favorite characters, while Wednesday was pajama day for the elementary school and the high school was “anything but a backpack day” and “throwback” day. The students had to using something other than a backpack to carry their books and supplies, while wearing KA clothing from the past.

Today (Thursday) was something different for each of the classes at KA. The Pre-K through fifth graders had different color shirts they were asked to wear, while the sixth graders dressed in ‘60s attire, the seventh grade in ‘70s, and the eighth graders in ‘80s. The ninth grade were “festive freshmen” where they wore holiday clothing; the sophomore were “surfing sophomores” where they wore beach attire, and the 11th graders were “jailbreak juniors.”

The seniors, appropriately enough, dressed as senior citizens.

Friday will be Spirit Day where each student was encouraged to go all out wearing Green and White, KA’s school colors.
