KA basketball teams try to restart seasons

The Kemper Academy basketball teams will try to get their season restarted as the COVID-19 pandemic has kept them sidelined for much of the past two months.

The Rams entered the new year with a 3-2 record while the Kemper Academy girls stand at 2-3. They have had 11 games cancelled or postponed because of the COVID-19 virus with opponents being sidelined because of an outbreak.

Kemper Academy played four games in November and one in December.

“I told them at the start that we will be playing every game like it is the last one, because it could be,” Coach Betty Lynn Haggard said. “The boys have been playing good basketball when we can get on the court. The girls are improving and are a work in progress.”

The Ram teams were to swing back into action Monday against Russell and Tuesday against Hebron. Kemper Academy was to visit Patrician Academy in Butler, Ala., on Friday. Next week, KA will visit Columbus Christian on January 12 and Newton Academy on January 15.

The Rams play in the same division with Newton Academy, Columbus Christian and Hebron Christian. The district tournament will be held at Newton Academy on February 1-6.
