Wildcats take 40-0 win over Forest

The Kemper County Wildcats got back on the winning track Friday night as they blanked Forest 40-0 in prep football action.

The Wildcats improve to 2-1 on the season. They host the Quitman Panthers this Friday night at the East Mississippi Community College football field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Jamar Grace put the Wildcats on the scoreboard when he caught an 80-yard TD pass from quarterback Aaron Steele. Jay Russell kicked the extra point and the Wildcats led 7-0.

In the second quarter, Grace returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. The extra point try failed and the Wildcats led 13-0 at the half.

Grace returned the second half kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. Again, the extra point try was no good and the Wildcats led 19-0.

Steele got into the action. First, he ran 46 yards for a touchdown. Steele scored the two point conversion and the Wildcats led 27-0. Steele later scored on an 89-yard run. The extra point try was no good and the Wildcats led 33-0. Steele scored the final touchdown of the night on a seven-yard run. Russell kicked the extra point.

Steele finished with 401 total yards. He completed 11-of-14 passes for 193 yards, and rushed 11 times for 208 yards.

Grace finished with seven catches for 146 yards. Jamari Scott had two catches for 25 yards while Adrian Burrage had one catch for 10 yards. Kyler Welch caught one pass for 12 yards.

On defense, Heaven Coleman had six tackles while E.J. Jackson had three tackles, an assist and a sack. Jaylyn Bourrage had three tackles and a sack. Ethan Clark had five tackles. Exzaybrian Hickman had seven tackles while Russell had three tackles.

“This was a much-need victory,” said Coach Ray Ray Westerfield. “I was proud of the overall effort.”

The Wildcats were without the services of standout running back Dicezo Miller who was out with a leg injury. Westerfield said his status was week-to-week.
