Wildcats sweep Forest on the court

 The Kemper County Wildcats swept a pair of games from Region 5-3A rival Forest on Saturday.

The Wildcats defeated Forest 49-42 while the Lady Wildcats won their game 56-45.

The Kemper County boys trailed 25-16 at the half. The Wildcats came on strong in the third quarter, outpointing the Bearcats 18-11. Kemper County trailed 36-24 heading into the third quarter They would outscore Forest 156 in the final quarter to claim the win.

James Granger led with 23 points while Qavon McClendon put in 11. The Wildcats now stand at 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the region under coach Qu’Varius Howard. They close out the regular season Tuesday at Forest. Kemper County will host the region tournament next week.

The starting lineup for Kemper County is Alford Love at point guard, McClendon at the second guard, and forwards Granger, Jamar Grace and Ben Winston.

 

Lady Wildcats

The Kemper County girls were tied at 14-14 after the first quarter in their game with Forest. Forest outpointed the Lady Wildcats 11-9 in the second quarter and led 25-23 at the half.

Kemper County took control in the third quarter as they outscored Forest 21-14. Kemper carried a 43-34 lead into the final stanza and held on for the victory,

Chantel Stringfellow led Kemper County with 20 points while TyAsia Bohannon scored 14. Zarigah Moss scored nine points.

The Lady Wildcats now stand at 6-5 overall and 6-3 in the region under coach Ronny Slaughter. The starting lineup has Stringfellow at point guard; ShaDaria Darden at the second guard; Moss and Robynn Jennings at the forwards and Bohannon at center.
