Polls will remain open until 7 p.m. Thursday for the special school bond election issue.

The Kemper County School District is proposing to issue $12 million in  bonds to building a new upper elementary school in DeKalb on the football practice field behinds the Wildcat basketball gym.

School district officials say this will not cause an increase in property taxes.

Registered voters can vote on the issue at the Kemper County High School basketball gym. The issue must receive 60 percent of the vote to pass.

Plans for the proposed building will be built to house approximately 320 students. It will consist of 16 state-of-the art classrooms. It will also have four specialty classrooms, an art room, a music room, a self-contained classroom and a gifted classroom. There will be a multi-purpose room and a school cafeteria.

Students will return to class in the Kemper County School District on Friday

Kemper Academy students will return to class on Monday.
