Supervisors receive tax rolls

The Kemper County board of supervisors took the first steps toward preparing the Fiscal Year 2021 budget Monday during their regular meeting.

Supervisors received notice from the tax collector’s office that the equalization of the tax rolls were ready. A notice will be published, advising the public that the rolls are ready for public inspection.

Supervisors also approved the Motor Vehicle Schedule for 2020-2021, and the real and personal assessment rolls for 2020 -2021.

In another matter, Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, president of East Mississippi Community College, addressed the board and updated supervisors on several upcoming events on the Scooba campus.

In other matters, the board voted to:

-Move $210 from the Office Equipment account from the office supplies account;

-Approve an order to replace the air conditioning system in the polling room of the library;

-Table a discussion concerning fees for solid waste and garbage pickup fees to a later date;

- Accept the June meal log report from the jail;

-Approve the purchase of Watch Guard equipment for car video and body cams for the sheriff’s department.

-Approve expenses incurred by the Sheriff’s Office for June. Supervisors also approved the transfer of the fourth quarter budget appropriation to the sheriff’s department and other departments;

-Amend the budget and add $4,000 to election workers fees account;

- Purchased the tag and title for the road and bridge department’s new 2021 Mack truck; and,

- Approve the repair of two air conditioning units for the county building used by Emilia.

Supervisors went into executive session tgo discuss personel matter.
