Safety important in return to school

Welcome back to school! While we may be starting this year off with some distance between us, we couldn’t be happier to see students getting back into their (virtual) classrooms, reconnecting with old friends, making new ones and getting to know their teachers.

We understand that students, families and educators are concerned about what this school year will look like - from distance learning, to in-person, to access technology, to health and safety.  Rest assured that we are working every day to ensure all of our schools are meeting and exceeding expectations when serving our children. This is another example of doing things the Wildcat Way, especially when making decisions based on what is in the best interest of our students.

I am pleased to announce that all of our schools have 100% highly qualified staff including all certified teachers. This means that our district is fully equipped to deliver high quality education to all students in Kemper County.

As we continue working toward getting students back to in-person learning in September, safety remains a top priority. Families should know that we are actively monitoring all of our schools to make sure that the latest health and safety standards are being maintained, so that our students, teachers and staff can learn and work in a safe environment.

Of course, technology will play a more important role this year more than ever.  Being in a rural area, our greatest concern is to ensure that all of our students can participate in distance learning.  That is why our district has committed to providing internet access via seven wifi/hotspot buses and goggle chrome access devices to all students and families in need.  We will do whatever it takes to get our families connected and to make sure that our students have access to information.

This entire summer has been about preparing for the new Kemper County School District. I am proud to say that our schools look great, which is a testament of our school leaders, administrators, teachers and staff working around the clock despite the daily challenges of this pandemic. Not just our buildings, but academically, we are prepared to lead and serve.

Every day, I look at our district, and find a new reason to be thankful.  I remain grateful to the entire Kemper County School District community for banding together in times of this crisis and working to build a brighter future for our students. So let’s all remember to mask up, wash our hands, and practice social distancing for Every Student, Every Day - The Wildcat Way!
