Principals named for Kemper schools

The Kemper County Schools have announced the principals for its elementary schools.

Dr. Jeri Cawthorn has been named principal of the Kemper County Lower Elementary school while Tyresia Brown will serve as principal of the Kemper County Upper Elementary School.

Dr. Cawthorn has worked in Kemper County School District for 27 years as teacher, district coordinator, and technology director.

Dr. Cawthorn's educational background includes holding a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education and a Doctorate from Delta State University.

"I love being around children," said Dr. Cawthorn. "It has always been my belief that all students can learn, which is why my main goal is for every student to be a reader at our school. We will be a reading school but in a fun learning environment where children can be children."

In Kemper County School District, Dr. Cawthorn was the first pre-kindergarten teacher in the district.

"Culture and climate will be our big focus, whereby we will encourage parents to be very involved in the learning process through participation activities," said Dr. Cawthorn.

Tyresia Brown has been with Kemper County School District for 17 years as teacher, grade chairperson, mentor and most recently former principal of East Kemper Elementary School.

Also, for the past 11 years, Brown has served as adjunct professor at East Mississippi Community College. She holds an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from East Mississippi Community College; a Bachelor's of Arts Degree and Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi College; and a Master's Degree in Education Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.

"Kemper County School District has been my educational home," said Brown. "I am honored to serve students and be a part of this amazing high performing team. Our school will focus on students' needs and making sure that our teachers are equipped with every available resource to support teaching and learning."

Under Brown's leadership, school environment plays a vital part for student success.

"This has always been my philosophy to make sure we have the best learning environment with the right culture to produce the best outcome for every student," said Brown.

The new administration leadership team will play an essential role in the design, planning and implementation of the district's new configuration its schools and programs, while working closely together with community stakeholders, including staff, parents and students.
