PACES Project strides into 13th Year

Posted

Given the bright outlook for PACES in its 13th year, it is one of those times that 13 can be thought of as a “Lucky Number”. The PACES Project is excited to announce that it will return to sponsoring college campus visits after a two pear COVID induced delay, and PACES will be able to observe all Kemper County High School COVID19 requirements. Each year about 30 KCHS seniors and juniors participate in the PACES Project program.

Kemper County Economic Development Authority’s PACES Project (Parents and Community Equals Educational Success) is an all-volunteer, self-supporting educational advocacy and mentoring program that help prepare KCHS students for life beyond high school by increasing community awareness of the value of higher education and increasing student access to information and resources about post-high school education and career opportunities.

This year PACES members will visit several Mississippi colleges and one in Alabama: The first trip will be to visit the campuses of East Mississippi Community College and the University of West Alabama. During the tours the students will get insights into what it takes to get into these institutions and the efforts required to remain a student. An added benefit of being a member of PACES is that PACES Alumni that are currently enrolled at college being visited, come out and join the PACES members during lunch and share their college experiences with our seniors.

The seniors were elated to see the return of the college campus trips and set about quickly completing PACES Projects community service requirement for becoming a member of PACES. In less than a week 10 Seniors had completed the requirements. Those quick responding students were: Kamyra Brown, Kaylan Clayton, Ashawna Grace, Kaylah Hearn, Alfred Love, Illyana McClendon, Adrianna McGraw, Santetia Triplett, and Genesis White.
