One dead in weekend shooting
A shooting this past Saturday night has left one person, Marquise Crosby, 26, dead as the Kemper County Sheriff’s investigators continue the search for three suspects involved in the incident.
Sheriff James Moore stated that Crosby was shot while at a large gathering at a field on Highway 495 South. A 22-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was shot in the leg, but was later released from the hospital.
According to Kemper County Coroner, Terry Bostick, Crosby was initially taken to John
- Stennis Memorial Hospital in DeKalb, then transported to Rush Hospital in Meridian, where he passed away sometime after midnight, Sunday morning.
Of the incident, Moore said that there were approximately twenty-five hundred people gathered, and only 10 or 12 officers. He said, “We were trying to get control to see who was doing the shooting and who was hit to get them emergency care. It was total chaos. I had about 10 to 12 officers on scene. It was absolutely nowhere near enough to deal with 2,500 people.”
Moore added, “We need a lot more information to put this case together. We do have some and I want to say to the people that hear about this is that there were a lot of people that saw a lot of stuff that’s very important to this investigation. We are going to ask that you please come forward.”
