— Sharon Thompson, East Mississippi Community College’s Director of Athletes and Women’s head basketball coach, has been selected to Mississippi State University’s Sports M-Club Hall of Fame.
FIVE YEARS AGO
(MAY 4, 2017)
— East Mississippi Community College sophomore Brittany Turner, 19, is an honor student, a member of the college’s Eastern Belles dance team and a martial arts instructor who will represent the U.S. in the 2017 World Martial Arts Games in September.
— For his complete-game no-hitter against Pearl River 10 days ago East Mississippi Community College sophomore Bubba Stockstill has earned MACJC Pitcher of the Week honors.
10 YEARS AGO

— Tyler Watt, the son of Louis and Janice Watt of Geiger, Ala., and a student a Kemper Academy, has signed a national letter-of-intent to join the East Mississippi Community College rodeo team in the fall of 2012.
— Darryl Carter, who in three seasons turned the Kemper County Wildcats football program into a play-off contender, has resigned to become the new head coach of the Shannon Red Raiders.

(MAY 1 1997)
—A big crowd gathered last Thursday in the cafeteria at Kemper County High School in a breakthrough event for education in the county. The first-ever Kemper County Business and Education forum brought together the county’s leader with four objects in mind. Those objectives included: Laying the foundation for a continuing partnership between business and education; sharing the employment needs of business representatives with educators; sharing the needs of educators with business representatives; and endorsing that s=business representative and educators are award of the series and training programs available through East Mississippi Community College.
— Dr. And Mrs. Authur Coleman Pickle of Kosciusko announce the engagement of their daughter, Karen, to Kenneth Dale Peay of Maben, son of Mr. Jeff Alonzo Peay and the late Mrs. Minnie V. Peay of Maben.
— Congratulations to Kemper Academy’s Chelsey Rushing, a K4 student, who placed fist in the MPSA State Art Contest. Chelsey is the daughter of Bryan and Pam Rushing of Scooba.
50 YEARS AGO
(MAY 4, 1972)
— Becky Johnson of DeKalb, student at the University of Mississippi, has recently been named to Who’s Who in Greek Fraternities and Sororities in American Colleges and University. Becky has again been selected as a Rebelette with the Ole Miss Marching Band for 1972-73.
— Sen. John C. Stennis announced today the approval by the Appalachian Regional Commission of $183,960 in federal funds for the reconstruction of the Zion access road in Kemper County, leading to Okatibbee Reservoir.
— The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Linda Nester and David Darnell is announced today by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard . Nester of Gholson. Parents of the prospective bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Guy Darnell of DeKalb.
