Lady Wildcats take two wins over Newton

The Kemper County High School fast-pitch softball team swept a pair of games from Newton High School last week, winning both games by identical 13-0 scores.

Neera Bell tossed a one-hitter for the Lady Wildcats who scored a single run in the first on an RBI single by Rodezah Smith and then added six in the sec­ond.

That uprising was highlight by doubles off the bats of Smith, Twanna McMiller, and Beverly Billy and an RBI single by Bell.

Bell also earned the win in the circle in the second game, post­ing another shutout, while strik­ing out 19 and allowing use one walk.

Smith led KCHS at the plate with a three-for-three night, while Kyla Grace, Bell and Billy had two hits each for the winners who picked up 13 total hits in the game.

In an earlier matchup KCHS beat Louisville 18-3. Smith and McMiller had two his each for the winners in that game, while Bell, R’dashia Naylor, Ka’terika Powe, and Orlandrea Houston had one hit each. Powe and McMiller also drove in two runs each.

Weather permitting, Kemper County was scheduled to play Louisville on Monday and Choctaw County on Tuesday, be­fore visiting Philadelphia on Thursday and hosting West Point on Friday.

This coming week the Lady Wildcats host West Lowndes on Tuesday, before visiting Leake County on Thursday.
