Kemper Wildcats open with strong victory

The Kemper County Wildcats opened their 2021 football season with a 47-20 victory over Leake Central Friday night on the East Mississippi Community College campus in Scooba.

The Wildcats will visit Louisville this Friday night.

Running back Dicenzo Miller Jr. had a busy night. He carried the ball 11 times for 73 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Aaron Steele completed 7-of-17 passing attempts for 100 yards and three touchdowns. Steele also rushed eight times for 117 yards and one touchdown.

Jamar Grace caught three passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Toddrick Rush rushed three times for 22 yards and Ty Steele ran the ball once for 12 yards.

Defensively, Devon Baskin had eight tackles, two for losses. Alex Roberts recovered a fumble. Kessler Thompson broke up a pass and Kendrick Wells had a quarterback sack.  Kenteric Delk had five tackles, E.J. Jackson had four tackles.

The Wildcats now turn their attention to Louisville which beat Gentry 31-12.

“Just like every year, Louisville is going to be a strong opponent,” said Coach Ray Ray Westerfield. “They are fast and physical on defense and they have a bunch of playmakers on offense.”
