Kemper schools announces school schedule
From school reports
Kemper County superintendent of schools Hilute Hudson has announced changes to the district’s schedule for the remainder of the 2020-2021 year,
“The safety and welfare of our students, staff and community has always been and will remain our top priority,” Hudson said. “To help flatten the curve and combat the rise of COVID-19 cases, our upcoming holiday break has been extended and the start of the school year for Spring 2021 has been delayed by one week.
Hudson discussed the following changes:
New Holiday Break
The school holiday break for all Kemper County students will now be December 19th, 2020 through January 10th, 2021. During this time, our campuses will be closed to the public.
Returning from Break
The first day of school for all students will be on Monday, January 11th, 2021. More information will be forthcoming about curriculum instruction, schedules and our new academic calendar prior to the start of school.
Extending the School Year
Due to the extended holiday and delayed start of school for the spring semester, our school year will be extended by one week to June 3rd. The district's new calendar was approved by the school board last Thursday.
"COVID cases are surging throughout our country, the weather is getting colder,” Hudson said. “The flu season is upon us. Add to that, this holiday season will probably find families closely gathering and not strictly adhering to social distancing rules.
"It just makes sense for us to take these actions to protect the health of our students, teachers, staff, families, and community. These changes will allow students and staff to return in January and be able to continue our work toward our student success and achievement goals with safety in mind,” Hudson said.
