Kemper County improves to 2-0 with win

Kemper County’s Dicenzo Miller Jr scored three touchdowns and rushed for 189 yards on 18 carries in the Wildcats’ 46-20 win over Raymond.

The Kemper County Wildcats improved to 2-0 Friday night as they took a 46-20 over Raymond in prep football action.

Kemper County trailed 7-6 after the first quarter. Dicenzo Miller Jr. put the Wildcats on the scoreboard on a 74-yard run. The kick was not good.

The Wildcats took the lead in the second quarter when quarterback Aaron Steele scored on a 20-yard run. At the half, Kemper County led 12-7.

Miller scored his second TD off the night in the third quarter when he went into the endzone from 10 yards out. Steele scored the two-point conversion, and Kemper County led 20-7.

Raymond put another touchdown on the scoreboard. Then the Wildcats scored again when Steele scored on a two-yard run. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Wildcats led 28-14.

Kemper County scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Aaron McCoy scored on a 15-yard run. Then Miller scored on a five-yard run. Jamar Grace scored the final points when he returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

“I think we are headed in the right direction,” said Coach Ray Ray Westerfield. “We are playing well. Our coaches are putting the kids in the right position and getting them ready to play. We still have some things to clean up.

The Wildcats are limiting mistakes. They only had one fumble and were penalized six times for 45 yards.

“This is what we stress in practice,” said Westerfield. “The team that makes the less mistakes more times than not wins the game. We are trying to play smart and eliminate our errors.”

The Wildcats finished with 414 total yards and 16 first downs. Kemper County rushed 317 yards on 18 carries and completed 8-of-12 passes for 97 yards.

Miller was the leading rusher with 189 yards on 18 carries. Aaron Steele had 97 yards on 11 rushes. Steele had all of Kemper County’s passing yards, giving him, 194 total yards. Aaron McCoy had 41 yards on six carries.

Jamar Grace had to catches for 40 yards. Ty Steele had two catches.

Ismael Naylor was the leading tackler with 10. Kentric Delk had five tackles.

The Wildcats will be back in action Friday night when they visit Eupora. Eupora comes into the game with a 1-1 record. Last week, they lost 48-0 to Union.

Raymond drops to 1-1. The Rangers will visit Newton High School Friday night.
