Kemper Academy boys split with Russell Christian

It was a short week of basketball for the Kemper Academy Rams. They played Russell Christian twice and split the series.

A shortage of players caused the Rams to lose game two, however they look to have some of that talent back on the floor this week as they take on Hebron on Thursday, before traveling to Enterprise on Monday. The Rams traveled to Columbus Christian on Tuesday.

Only the Rams got the chance to play this week, as Russell does not have a varsity girls basketball team.

The Rams took game one of the series 47-32. Jay McWilliams led the scoring for KA with 16, and behind him was Zane Knight with 11. Eli Weaver recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Blake Hutcherson scored seven points and secured seven boards.

“Everyone was on fire,” KA Head Coach Betty Lynn Haggard said.

However the next game was a completely different story for the Rams. They took on Russell at home on Friday and were without McWilliams and Knight. Russell won the game 44-34. Weaver scored 13 to lead the Rams, while Casen Holmes scored 10.

Colton Kynerd scored eight points, while having an incredible game down low. Kynerd led the game with 18 rebounds.

“That was a heck of a game for him,” Haggard said. Haggard said they missed the scoring of McWilliams and Knight, however look forward to having them back on the court soon. Haggard said the Lady Rams are hurting having not been on the court for so long.

She is worried that the break has slowed down their pace. “We look forward to getting back on the court this week for a great week of basketball.”
