Kemper Academy annual meeting set for Oct. 12

Posted

The annual meeting of the Kemper Academy patrons is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12 in the assembly room at the school. All patrons are encouraged to attend.

Among the top items on the agenda for the meeting will be the election of two members to the 10- member school board. The board is broken up into five “beats” built around the districts of the Kemper County Board of Supervisors. Each district has two members on the board.

This year it is Beat 1 representation that will be voted on. The candidates must be from that beat and a beat meeting has already been held to come up with nominations, but they can also be taken from the floor. The members are then voted on by the entire patron list in attendance, not just those living in that particular beat.

The board officers will then be selected by the 10-member school board. The current board president is Scott Johnson.

Head of School Mary Ellen Waters will be making her annual report as well and will be discussing several items, including a grant the school has recently received.

After the business of the annual meeting is concluded there will also be reports from the KA Booster Club and the PTA.

Waters said there are currently 125 families connected to Kemper Academy and that she is expecting an attendance of between 75 and 100.
