KCHS, KA ready to return to hoops action

While it will be Tuesday night before Kemper Academy resumes basketball play for the 2022 portion of its schedule as the Rams and Lady Rams hit the road to face Columbus Christian, the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats of Kemper County High School were on the court this week.

KCHS was set to take part in the Sam Dale Tournament being hosted by Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The game were played after the Kemper County Messenger’s press deadlines for this week’s paper.

The Kemper County boys and girls opened play in the four-team event by taking on the host Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans and Trojans in the late games on Tuesday night. The tourney opened with the Quitman boys and girls meeting Southeast Lauderdale.

The girls consolation game was set for Wednesday at 4 p.m., followed by the boys consolation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday’s two winners met Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the girls finals and at 8:30 p.m. for the boys championship.

The Rams and Lady Rams of KA have two games each next week. After visiting CCA on Tuesday, Kemper Academy is set to host Newton County Academy on Friday, Jan. 7. The next week has KA hosting a pair of games with Sylva-Bay coming in on Jan. 11 and Calhoun paying a visit on Jan. 14.

Kemper County’s first games of 2022 will be when the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats play host to Philadelphia on Friday, Jan.7, then travel to Noxubee County the next night. The following week KCHS host Nanih Waiya on Jan. 11, visits Newton on Jan. 14 and takes part in the Bay Springs Classic on Jan. 15.
