KA set to visit undefeated Newton Academy

The Kemper Academy Rams took another tough loss Friday night, this time 40-0 to Prentiss Christian. The Rams are now 1-5 on the season with four games remaining on the regular season.

This week the Rams will travel to Decatur and face undefeated Newton Academy. KA head coach Steve Cheatham says it will take a lot of preparation and perfection to come out with a win on Friday.

“They have a running back who can fly,” Cheatham said, as he needs his defense to be perfect on Friday. The Rams had a chance to come out of the break and win against Prentiss Christian as they were only trailing 12-0 at halftime in what Cheatham said was an excellent second-quarter performance. “I was very proud of the second quarter,” Cheatham said. “We gotta learn to do it for four quarters.”

Cheatham said that if the Rams played every quarter like they played the second on Friday, they would be very competitive. “If we can have four quarters of that, we can win ball games,” he said. “We show spirits of greatness,”

Cheatham says the Rams are continuing to improve and are “making some progress. “I love those kids,” Cheatham said, “They give you everything you got.”

After the Newton Academy game on Friday, the Rams will return home and face Hebron Christian, who they defeated in the pre-season. The following week, Kemper Academy will host Homecoming as they take on Ben’s Ford in the final home game of the season.
