Deputies help distribute free food

Deputies from the Kemper County sheriff’s department load up a car with groceries during the department’s weekly food giveaway.

The food comes from the USDA Farmers to Family Food Foundation and is powered by the Mississippi Crisis Foundation. Sheriff James Moore said his department receives about 1,400 boxes of food and they usually give it all away.

“It has been appreciated,” Moore said. “People may say they don’t need it but if they use it and if it replaces a meal, it helps.”

There was no food give away this week but it will be back Wednesday, May 5.
