Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. honored
This past Monday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was honored with a service held at Belmount M.B. Church in DeKalb. The ceremony began with a motorcade that traveled from the Kemper County Courthouse to the church.
The theme of the program was Bridging the Gap, and the guest speaker was District 32 State Senator Rod Hickman. Rontal Jenkins opened the service with prayer, followed by a welcome from Justin Creer. A duet of EMCC students Jeremy Moore and Scotland McNutt presented the song Going Up Yonder.
Hickman spoke about the importance of working together for the greater good of all, and the necessity of putting away infighting, and of looking from one generation to another for guidance, adding that the old guard must give instruction to the new guard, in a message inspiring unity and cooperation for the betterment of all.
