Glenn Williams doesn’t mind telling anyone who will listen how proud he is of the nearly constructed concrete bridge that spans two creeks on Neelytown Road, which runs into DeKalb near the Emilia Resources building.

“It’s a really nice one,” Williams, the road manger for Kemper County, said of the structure that is slowly nearing completion. “It’s something to be proud of.”

The prestressed concrete beam span bridge is being built by T.L. Wallace Construction, Inc. of Columbia, Miss. at a price of just under $1.133M.

While that bridge is cer tainly gaining some local attention, most Kemper County residents are also interested in when their local roads will be improved.

Those improvements are on the way. Those currently on the 4-year road plan to receive new payment with soil cement base are portions of Coleman Drive, Craig Road, Cullum Road, Dan Whitsett Road, Ford Road, Gaines Road, George McDade Road, Haze Cherry Road, Huffmaster Road, J.P. Coleman Road, Neal McClelland Road, Neelytown Road, Sucarnoochee Road, VanDevender Lane, Wilkins Road, Williams Road, Anderson Road, Bethlehem Road, Johnny Puckett Road, Marion Campbell Road, Mark Cobb Road, McFarland Road, and Ross Road.
