The annual Heritage Day event is set for downtown DeKalb for Saturday, Oct. 30 and will officially run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During its quarterly meeting on Monday afternoon the Kemper County Historical Association made final plans for the event, which is both the organization’s annual fundraiser and one of the most-visited days for the Kemper County Museum which is located in the old S.D. Mercantile Warehouse located just off the courthouse square at 230 Veterans Street in DeKalb..

There will be live music, a bake sale, and an opportunity for visitors to check out the wide-ranging artifacts in the museum.

Tickets for pulled pork barbecue plates — which includes a sandwich, chips, and drinks — are on sale for $6 each. Four hundred tickets are currently in the possession of association members. To purchase your ticket in advance you can contact any of the association members or call 601-743-2412 and request your tickets.

According to a report given during Monday’s meeting there are currently 36 family memberships and 50 family memberships to the association. The Kemper County Historical Association is hoping to encourage a younger generation to join in order to keep the county’s history alive.
