80 new American flags donated to Kemper County schools

Kemper County School District has been on a path of newness. Whether it is restructuring of the elementary schools, new website, instructional coaches, personnel, curriculum or athletics, it is difficult for anyone to miss the positive changes and new atmosphere around the district.

Superintendent Hilute Hudson recently requested to add one more element to every classroom, a new American flag.

Working with Bernard Hulin, a retired Navy veteran and school partner with PACES (Parents & Community Equals Educational Success), and state Sen. Sampson Jackson, Kemper County School District received 80 flags through their effort.

“It was an honor for me to help with this request,” said Hulin.  “I firmly believe in supporting students with military interests and careers as well as the proper flag protocol.”

Hulin reached out to Senator Jackson to get assistance from the state level because of the number of flags needed. 

“I’m all about promoting patriotism in our schools,” said Jackson. “It took one phone call to U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and the new flags were donated to replace missing flags or those needing retiring.”

Both Hulin and Jackson said the symbolism of the flag in every classroom is important.  “Our students and teachers still recite the Pledge of Allegiance every school day,” said Hulin.

Kemper County School District continues with this tradition in honor of the country.

“We are very appreciative of our district for recognizing and desiring that our classrooms bear our nation’s colors with pride,” said Jackson.
