Supervisors approve jail contract with Tribe

The Kemper County supervisors accepted an contract with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians to enable the tribe to house prisoners in the Kemper-Neshoba County Jail in DeKalb.

That was decided Monday during the board's first meeting of the month.

In other matters, supervisors voted to:



- Pay attorney Linda Hampton guardian ad litem fees in the amount of $2,450 and $2,100 for professional services in connection with Youth Court cases. This was ordered by Judge J, Nax Kilpatrick;

- Declare lumber from the Creosote Bridge surplus;

- Approve an order finally accepting and approving the real and personal assessment roles of Kemper County for 2019;

- Approve dues in the amount of $100 to the Mississippi Coroner/Medical Examiner Association for Peggy Henderson;

- Accept the meal logs from the Kemper/Neshoba County Correctional Facility for the month of November;

- Approve the purchase of a name plate, county cell phone and IPAD for incoming supervisors Scott Johnson;

- Approve an order supporting the first Christmas tree festival and lighting ceremony in DeKalb;

- Approve the following holiday observances: December 24-25 for Christmas and December 31-January 1 for New Years Day.

Supervisors tabled a request to pay local attorney Marvin Wiggins for expenses he incurred while serving as county attorney,
