Miller scores 3 TDs to pace Wildcats

Dicenzo Miller Jr. rolled up 256 total yards and scored three touchdowns while leading the Kemper County Wildcats to a 46-20 victory over Eupora Friday night in prep football action.

The Wildcats improve to 3-0 with the victory. They will host Cleveland Central this Friday night at East Mississippi Community College.

“We both lost games because of COVID-19 and need to play,” Coach Ray Westerfield said. “We were supposed to play Philadelphia but most of their team is in quarantine. It was the same for Cleveland. I know their coach and we were able to put the game together.”

Cleveland is a Class 5A school.

Westerfield was proud of his team’s recent outing against Eupora.

“We played a really good game,” Westerfield said. “We started off a little slow but once we got going, we played well.”

Eupora scored first and went up 7-0. Then Miller broke for a 68-yard touchdown run. The kick failed and the Wildcats trailed 7-6 heading into the second quarter.

The Wildcats took the lead in the second quarter. Miller scored on a 10-yard run. Aaron Steele ran in the two-point conversion and the Wildcats went up 14-7.

Steele scored on a 30-yard run. Eupora would score a touchdown and the Wildcats led 20-14 at the half.

The Wildcats shut Eupora out in the second half. Kemper County picked up a pair of touchdowns during the third period. Jamar Grace caught a 50-yard TD pass from Steele. Then Miller scored on a five-yard run. The Wildcats led 34-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Kemper County wrapped up the final quarter with a pair of touchdowns. Grace scored on a 15-yard run. Then Miller scored on a 15-yard run and also scored a two-point conversion.

Kemper County finished with 491 total yards. The Wildcats rushed for 255 yards and completed 14-of-20 passes for 238 yards. They lost one fumble.

Miller rushed 16 times for 198 yards and caught three passes for 56 yards. Steele had all of Kemper County’s passing yards. He rushed 11 times for 57 yards, giving him 298 total yards. Ty Steele two passes for 50 yards, and Jamari Scott had for catches for 27 yards.

Ishmael Naylor led the defense with 14 tackles. Exzaybian Hickman had six tackles.

There was an injury. Aaron McCoy injured his leg and is out for the season.
