Kemper County hosts Forest in battle for first in region

The Kemper County Wildcats improved to 3-0 in the Region 5-3A Thursday as they took a 26-16 victory over Southeast Lauderdale in prep football action.

The Wildcats finish up the regular season Friday night when they host the Forest Bearcats. Forest stands at 2-1 in the region following last week's 16-7 victory over Morton.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 victory over the Wildcats to start last week's game.

Jamar Grace caught a three-yard TD pass from quarterback De'Onte Rush to put the Wildcats on the scoreboard. Ricardo Windham ran in the two point conversion and the Wildcats trailed 10-8.

Grace scored another touchdown on a seven yard gain and the Wildcats led 14-10. The extra point try failed.

Grace then scored his third touchdown of the game on an 18-yard pass from Rush. The two point conversion failed and Kemper County led 20-10.

Windham then scored on an eight-yard run. Southeast Lauderdale scored late in the game.

Rush completed 18-of-28 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted once.

Grace had four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed once for seven yards.

Windham had 12 rushes for 67 yards and five catches for 62 yards, giving him 129 total yards.

Christian Rush ran three times for 20 yards and had five catches for 39 yards, giving him 59 total yards.

On defense, Benard Turner had two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. He had six tackles. River Smart had four tackles and two interceptions.

Ishmael Naylor had 11 tackles.
