Graveside services for Doris Janell Dees Barnett were held Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 11:00 a. m. from Bluff Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County with Rev. John Branning officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barnett, of Grayson, GA, died Thursday, June 4, 2020.

Doris Janell Dees Barnett, age 94, was born on February 13th, 1926, in DeKalb, Mississippi. She was the youngest of six children born to James Henry Dees and Fanny Gully Dees.

She graduated from Cleveland High School in Kemper County, East Mississippi Junior College with Associates of Arts degree, and the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On March 17th, 1945, she married Raymond Ross Barnett of Neshoba County. Ross was career military and they lived in numerous places, including Atlanta, Georgia, and Kaiserslautern, Germany. During this time they had two boys – Bobby Ross Barnett and Michael Dees Barnett.



Doris retired from the Atlanta Public School System as an elementary school teacher and librarian. Doris and Ross lived in Hapeville, Georgia, and for over 30 years in Peachtree City, Georgia. Doris was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church, the United Methodist women's group, Ad-Lo-Ho Sunday School class, and bridge group.

Doris lived her last four years in Grayson, Georgia, near her oldest son Bobby and his wife, Eleanor, where they attended Cannon United Methodist Church.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ross Barnett. She is survived by her sons, Bobby and Mike; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as three sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers were Chris Barnett, Jeff Barnett, James Barnett, Bryan Verhoef, Nathan Verhoef, and Jon Mann.
