Kemper Academy will close out its 2017 season at home this Friday night, as the Rams host Marvell (Ark.) Academy in DeKalb. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Marvell comes into the contest with a 3-4 overall mark and a 2-3 record in district play. The tradition-rich Eagles started the year with four consecutive losses, but have since reeled off three straight wins. Marvell beat Sharkey-Issaquena 44-36 two weeks ago before having an open date last week.

The last time Kemper met Marvell was during the 2014 postseason, a 56-40 win for the Rams.

Kemper Academy made its final long trek to the Mississippi Delta for the season last Friday night, where the Rams dropped a 56-12 decision to Sharkey-Issaquena Academy.

The loss kept the Rams winless in MAIS competition and in District 1-E. as KA fell to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in district play. Sharkey improved to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in league action.

Last week at Sharkey, Kemper coach Pete McCleskey said the Rams managed just two big plays on offense. The first resulted in a 55-yard run for a touchdown by sophomore quarterback Brody Thomas, who accounted for both of his team’s touchdowns on the night.

The second came when Jackson Mason busted a 51-yard run in the third quarter.

Thomas finished with a team-high 76 yards and the two scores rushing.

Defensively, KA got nine tackles from Chase Cawthorn and seven from Matthew Cordar.
