Funeral services for Lois Adkins were held Friday, January 26, 2018, at 11:00 am at Scooba United Methodist Church in Scooba, MS. Bro. Keith Williams officiated, with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Adkins, age 92, of Scooba, passed away January 22.

Lois was born in Electric Mills and raised in Scooba, MS. After marrying George Young Adkins, Jr, she spent the next twenty-seven years as an Army wife. Lois was civic minded, patriotic and a proud Southerner. She began her service to her country and community in 1942 when she was chosen as Calutron Girl on the Manhattan Project.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Adkins (Barb), of Starkville, Marianne Ulmer (Allen), of Starkville, and Lisa A. Glass (Tim), of Rock Hill, SC; grandsons, Curt Ulmer (Kristie) of Olive Branch, MS, Cody Adkins, of Jackson, MS, Cole Glass, of Birmingham, AL and Kyle Glass (Lauren) of Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Eva and Warren Ulmer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Young Adkins, Jr; parents, AJ and Donnie Belle Gifford Ourbre; siblings, Thomas Lipton Oubre, Willie Vernon Oubre, Al Oubre, Jr, Elois Oubre Davis, and Stanley Oubre, a brother that died in childhood.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and sons-in-law.

Visitation was held Thursday, January 25 from 5-7pm at the Stephens Funeral Home in DeKalb.
