Services for Bishop Samuel E. Phillips were held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Mercy and Peace Outreach Church in Preston, MS,  with the Bishop Curtis Doakes officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.

 Bishop Samuel E. Phillips "Toe Joe" was born on August 12, 1942 to the late Cleo and Wesley Phillips in Clarksville, TX.  

Bishop Phillips, 74, died on Saturday, January 15,  2017 at the Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. New Haven Funeral Home were in charge of the final arrangements.

He was the youngest of 5 children. Samuel was the faithful pastor of Mercy and Peace Church in Preston, MS. He served faithfully until God called him home. Bishop Phillips was a devout man of God and his wisdom and work for the Lord will live in the lives of many people. He was married to Brenda (Kirk) Phillips and to that marriage family there are eight children between them.

He was proceeded in death by this parents, two sisters: Earnastine Marie Phillips and Mary Ricks (Lady), and one brother, Albert Curtis(A.C.)

His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:19 -And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, and his favorite Song was "May The Works I've Done Speak For Me".

Bishop leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Brenda of 43 years. Eight children: Chandra (Leo) Crawford of Overland Park, KS, Sonya Phillips of DeKalb, MS, Samuel E. Phillips Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Rawls (Keith) Phillips of Overland Park, KS, Edvinna McIntosh of Meridian, MS, Tabitha Phillips of Kansas City, MO, Michael Kirk of Atlanta, GA, Dred Phillips of Preston, MS.  Fifteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, one brother Dred Scott (Ella) Phillips of Montbello, CO, two aunts: Dorothy (Ossie) Coleman of Clarksville,TX, Edessje Brown of Los Angeles, CA, three godchildren: William Michael Brown, Charles Christopher Gaddis, Jr. (C.C.) and Erica Hibbler. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
