The Kemper County Relay For Life will be seeking to raise $45,000 this year to help fight cancer.

Relay night will be June 7 in DeKalb at the Court House square. This year’s theme is “Cruising for Cure.”

The night will start at 6 p.m. with the opening ceremony and survivor’s walk. Afterwards, teams will walk until Relay ends at 11 p.m.

T-shirts and luminaries are now on sale. They can be purchased to honor a cancer survivor or the memory of someone who has passed because of cancer. Luminaries will be lighted during the Luminary Walk. For more information, contact Totsseta Hearn at 601-938-7117.

Relay For Life is annual event for communities across the country. It is a project that helps fund the research and work of the American Cancer Society.

It has always been said that Kemper County comes together on Relay night because cancer know no boundaries; it can strike anyone at any time.

There are nine teams and each will have a fund-raising protect to raise money. The teams include Weems Mental Health, Brown Ridge Baptist Church, Center Ridge Baptist Church, Henderson Baptist Church, Mt. Salem Baptist Church, Salem Bluff Springs Church, DeKalb Parrish United Methodist Church, New Vision Baptist Church, Mt. Sinai Church, West Kemper Elementary School Kemper Springs.

An event was held in March. The 3rd annual Kemper County Relay For Life Spring Gala was held March 23 at East Mississippi Community College. More than 80 people attended the event.

There is still time to put a team together. For more information, call Hearn, who is the co-chair. Bonnie White is the chairman of this year’s Relay. She can be reached at 601-743-5643.
