Starkville students took top honors in EMCC math tournament

Four students from Armstrong Middle School in Starkville took top honors last Friday at a district math tournament at East Mississippi Community College. Winners of the tournament are pictured with EMCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner, left, and members of the Mathematics and Science Division at the Scooba campus. They are, from left: Aaron Wan (1st place, 8th grade); Michael Lu (2nd place, 8th grade); Ian Zhang (1st place, 7th grade); and Andrew Yu (2nd place, 7th grade). The first and second place winners move on to the state competition March 25 at Madison Middle School in Madison County. Thirty-two seventh and eighth grade students competed the competition sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In addition to Armstrong Middle, other participating schools included B.F. Liddell Middle School, Caledonia Middle School, Columbus Christian Academy, Heritage Academy, Kemper County High School, New Hope Middle School and Starkville Academy.
